The Elements of Innovation Discovered

A Revolution for better mine grinding

Metal Tech News - July 24, 2024

PowerMaster President Haiku York talks with Metal Tech News about the company's Revolution grinding technology for mining.

PowerMaster has launched Revolution, a promising environmentally-friendly crushing technology designed to increase efficiency, lower costs, reduce the carbon footprint, and improve safety at mining operations.

The PowerMaster Revolution is a gyroscopic grinder designed to efficiently process various materials, from large ore chunks to fine tailings, all while cutting the cost of processing by half. Revolution comes from a long line of machinery put out by PowerMaster for reducing waste in landfills; various methods for recycling and turning waste into energy.

This latest technology focuses on reducing the environmental impact of mining operations by reclaiming valuable minerals, cutting emissions, and minimizing waste, aiding in mine site remediation and reprocessing valuable tailings.

MTN: You've said you love to explore, innovate, design, and create systems which have a healing impact on the world. How did you get into processing technologies and gyroscopic grinding as a simple and effective way to carry forward your commitment to cleaning up the planet?

Haiku York

Haiku: I work with many efficient and green technologies, and this specific gyroscopic grinding technology has piqued my interest because of its ability to efficiently process hundreds of tons of material and produce value from what would otherwise be considered waste product-simultaneously creating huge benefits for the companies using it and for the environment.

MTN: Your website claims the company has identified over 17 vertical markets, including waste to energy, landfill reduction, disaster cleanup, factory seconds, and recycling of almost all material. How many have you been able to take on in practice as of today, and are there some highlights on that list for you that you're especially excited about pursuing as time goes on?

HAIKU: We've taken on many industries, and there are many more to come. In every industry, there is a need for efficient processing of material, but these material types are what we consider a different vertical. Currently, we are focusing on the mining and the waste industry. By focusing on the specific industries, it grows our infrastructure and increases efficiency in deploying solutions for these end users at mining, recycling and waste companies.

MTN: Tell me a little about the turn-key operations you've set up and what's on offer. Anything the mining industry should get its hands on?

PowerMaster

PowerMaster Revolution focuses on reducing the environmental impact of mining operations by cutting emissions and minimizing waste.

HAIKU: Specifically of interest to the mining industry, our Revolution machine can take your rocks dug out of the ground and process them into powder in one pass. Typically, in the mining industry, it takes several stages of grinding and processing to take your rocks down to a powder that is ready for extraction or resell. This not only saves on capital expenses and needing to buy many machines, but it also saves a tremendous amount on operational expenses, such as maintenance and electricity. The savings directly contribute to reducing the environmental impact and carbon footprint of our users. From the results we've delivered to specific mining companies with our turn-key processing operations, we guarantee any mining company that works with us will save at least 20% on their cost per ton.

MTN: More of the industry has been looking to reprocess tailings and optimize mine waste into commercially viable products; the DOE is on the hunt for companies that can recover rare earths and critical minerals from unconventional and secondary sources such as coal mine wastes, metals mine tailings, as well as wastewater produced from oil and gas production. Can you describe where your technology fits in the process of converting something like e-waste to gold, platinum, and rare earths?

HAIKU: Our technology fits into reprocessing operations, offering the lowest cost per ton way to process, micronize and dry the tailings for further extraction or use. By turning many of these materials from a waste product into a commercially viable product, it saves these companies on disposal costs, gives them an additional stream of revenue, and cleans up waste at the same time.

Additionally, we are talking with the United States Department of Energy about many projects, including tailings reprocessing.

MTN: The mining industry is on high alert for any technology that will boost efficiency, reduce costs, create added value from tailings, and – a big one – reduce carbon emissions. PowerMaster ticks so many boxes with this technology; as your Director of Special Projects, Lila York, put it: "Our product is half the price of other machines, one-tenth the maintenance cost, has virtually no downtime and when something gets in it that shouldn't be there, it doesn't blow up like other machines do." How have you successfully solved for all those pain points?

HAIKU: We've solved these pain points by starting at the core issue: Cost per ton. This doesn't just mean upfront costs or ongoing costs, but also environmental costs. The hours of engineering and design that have gone into the Revolution have resulted in a machine that can efficiently process hundreds of tons per hour down to a micron size at a lower cost.

MTN: And lastly, tell us a little bit about your team, and are there any upcoming projects of interest or expansion you might be hiring for?

HAIKU: We are always looking for great engineers that really understand the environment, heavy equipment, and climate technologies. (PowerMaster) is looking for great people that understand industry and have any connections to create new partnerships and reduce costs in mining companies with our technology. Finally, we also have a program for joint ventures of projects needing help with remediation and disaster relief and cleanup.
