The Elements of Innovation Discovered
Yahsat satellites will enable more connectivity for Industry 4.0 Metal Tech News - November 26, 2021
Swedish telecom company Ericsson Nov. 25 announced a global agreement with Yahsat, the United Arab Emirates' flagship satellite solutions provider, to deliver private network, data, and internet connectivity services across the oil and gas, mining, and ports industries.
Yahsat, or the Al Yah Satellite Company PJSC, is a public company that offers multi-mission satellite services in more than 150 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, South America, Asia, and Australasia.
Multinational networking and telecommunications giant, Ericsson, has long been known for its private network and digital services capabilities, even more so since the announcement of its private 5G connection for Industry 4.0 in early-June.
"Ericsson has introduced private 5G networking solutions to fuel innovation and drive efficiency and sustainability across every sector," said Åsa Tamsons, senior vice president of business area technologies and new businesses at Ericsson. "In addition, 5G enables automation, increases safety and facilitates lower carbon operations."

Under this agreement, both parties will co-market and expand their sales of several important applications such as remote sensing, video surveillance, UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicle) and drones, geo-positioning, backhaul solution for offshore oil rig sites, and general data connectivity.
Options offered by this collaboration will play a vital role in completing the technology and connectivity ecosystem need for automation and IoT (internet of things) adoption across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia regions.
The partnership will leverage Ericsson's telecommunications and technology leadership position, with Yahsat providing advanced telecommunications services and solutions to be integrated with Ericsson's private networks solutions and devices across its numerous industries.
"We are delighted to collaborate with Ericsson to deliver comprehensive integrated communications solutions to the oil and gas, mining and ports industries," said Ali Al Hashemi, CEO of Yahsat Group. "Leveraging our combined areas of expertise, we are confident that we will play a key role in overcoming the access and connectivity challenges facing these critical industries and further build upon our strong value proposition to prime customer segments, regionally and internationally."
Yahsat's fleet of five satellites currently reaches more than 80% of the world's population, enabling critical communications including broadband, broadcasting, backhauling, and mobility solutions. Based out of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Yahsat provides C, Ku, Ka and L-band satellite communications solutions for land, maritime and aero platforms to consumers, governments, and enterprises.
"Ericsson's private network solution, combined with Yahsat's satellite connectivity and services, will empower advanced IoT use cases," said Tamsons. "Predictive maintenance, connected worker, augmented reality, senser-based monitoring, and automated guided vehicles are some exciting examples."
By integrating its service options, new secure, reliable, and low-latency local connectivity deployed to Industry 4.0 use cases on a single network will allow both organizations to expand their reach and boost sales in existing and new regions across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
